Chat Intelligence Topics

Chat Intelligence Topics

Chat Intelligence sorts your conversations into topics. The topic list is a hint for the AI, not a fixed rulebook, and you can change it any time.

Where to find it

Open Reports, then Chat Intelligence, then Topics. You need the Intelligence Suite on your plan, and you must be a supervisor or administrator to make changes.

Edit your topic list

Add, rename or remove topics, or load a starting template for your industry (Insurance, Healthcare, Retail, E-commerce, Financial Services, Technology, Government or Manufacturing) and edit it. If you have no template, start from a blank list and build your own. A list can have up to 60 topics.

Changes to the list apply to new conversations. Past conversations keep the topic they were given.

Merge, rename and group without any AI cost

Merging, renaming and grouping topics changes how reports show your history. Old conversations follow the new names right away and nothing is re-run. Retiring a topic removes it from the list for new conversations and keeps your history.

Select a group name for a topic to roll related topics up together. Velaro suggests groups from your own topic names and counts. Suggestions do not use AI.

Suggested topics

When a conversation fits nothing on your list, Velaro keeps the AI's own short topic instead of discarding it. The Suggested topics panel shows each one with a count and example chats. You can accept it, merge it into an existing topic, rename it, or dismiss it.

Noise/Uncategorized only means a conversation had no real content, such as a greeting or a test message.

Optional: re-check older chats

Reclassify re-runs the AI on older conversations, for example after you add a topic. Velaro shows an estimated cost first, and a conversation limit applies. You never need it for merging, renaming or grouping.

Optional: ask for tidy-up ideas

Analyze topics makes one low-cost AI call over your topic counts and suggested topics (personal details are removed first). It shows the estimated cost before it runs, saves the result, and can run once a day. It proposes merges, renames and groups. Nothing changes until you accept each proposal.

From the CLI and MCP

The velaro CLI (velaro chat-topics show|set|template|merge|rename|retire|group|suggestions|accept|dismiss|reclassify|analysis) and the Velaro MCP tools chat_topics_get, chat_topics_set, chat_topics_edit, chat_topics_group_suggestions, chat_topics_suggestions, chat_topics_resolve_suggestion, chat_topics_reclassify and chat_topics_analysis do the same things.
