Magento Carts in Chat View Add Update and Checkout Link
Once your Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce store is connected, your bot can work with shopping carts inside a chat. This guide covers what each cart action does, what your customer needs to do first, and the limits to know about today. For setup, see the Magento and Adobe Commerce Setup and Skills Guide.
What Your Bot Can Do With Carts
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| View cart | Shows the items, quantities, prices and total in the customer's saved cart. The cart is always the verified customer's own. |
| Add to cart | Adds a simple product to the shopper's storefront cart, the one shown in your store header. The bot says the item was added only after your store confirms the cart contents. If it cannot add the item, it says so and shares the product link instead. |
| Update cart quantity | Changes the quantity of an item in the customer's own active cart. A quantity of 0 removes the item. |
| Checkout link | When a cart is tied to a signed-in customer, the bot shares a link to the store cart page, where the customer signs in and checks out. |
Verification Comes First
Viewing or changing a personal cart needs a verified customer. If the visitor is not verified yet, the bot asks them to confirm who they are before it touches an account cart. See How Magento Chat Actions Verify Your Customer for the six digit code step.
What To Know About Guest Carts
- A cart the bot builds for a visitor who is not signed in exists only on your store's server. It is not the cart in the shopper's browser, and it has no shareable checkout link. The bot will not tell the shopper those items are in their cart.
- To put an item in the cart the shopper actually sees, the bot uses the add to cart action.
- Add to cart handles simple products. For a product with options such as size or color, the bot first helps the customer pick the exact option. See Your Bot Finds Products By Colour, Size And Similar Words.
Wishlists
The bot can read a customer's wishlist and show saved items with name, SKU and price, then offer to add them to a cart. Today the wishlist is read only: the bot cannot add an item to, or remove an item from, a wishlist. Visitor chats always use the verified customer, so a visitor cannot ask for someone else's wishlist.
Permissions and Plans
- In the Magento integration, grant the Carts resource so cart actions can run.
- Viewing carts and wishlists sits in the lookups group. Adding to a cart and changing quantities sit in the carts and comments group. If a group is not on your plan, it shows as locked in Velaro.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Bot says it could not add the item | The product may be out of stock, have required options, or not be a simple product. Open the integration Activity Log to see what Magento returned. |
| Bot cannot find a saved cart | The customer may have no active cart, or has not been verified yet. |
| Cart actions fail with an access error | Grant Carts access on the Magento integration, then run Test Connection again. |
Some cart behavior is being tightened up. Where an item is described above as a current limit, that is how it works today.
