What is AI Compose Email?

AI Compose Email is a workflow node that writes and sends emails automatically. You describe what the email should say in plain language — Claude (AI) writes a polished, personalised email using the conversation context and sends it via email.

No template library to manage. No copy-pasting. Just describe the email and it gets written and sent.

How to add it to a workflow

1. Open a workflow in the editor.

2. Click the + button to add an action.

3. Go to the Email group and select AI Compose Email.

4. In the right panel, type your instructions in the Instructions field.

5. Optionally set the recipient, subject hint, tone, and whether to include conversation context.

6. Save and activate the workflow.

Quick-start instructions (copy these into the Instructions field)

Post-support follow-up:

"Write a warm follow-up email summarising the support issue that was resolved. Include what was done, any next steps, and how to reach us if they need more help."

Quote delivery:

"Write a professional email thanking the customer for their interest, summarising what we discussed, and letting them know a detailed proposal will follow within one business day."

Appointment confirmation:

"Write a friendly appointment confirmation email with the booking details, what the customer should prepare, the rescheduling policy (24 hours notice), and a contact method."

Escalation notice:

"Write a professional email telling the customer their case has been escalated to a senior team member, with the case number and estimated 4-hour response time."

Key fields

Instructions — plain language description of what the email should say. This is the only required field.

Recipient Email — leave blank to use the contact's email on file. Supports <<variable>> substitution (e.g. <<collectedEmail>>).

Subject — optional. If blank, Claude generates a subject from the instructions.

Tone — Professional (default), Friendly, Formal, or Urgent.

Include Conversation Context — when on, Claude reads the last 40 messages and uses them to personalise the email.

AI Compose Email is included in the Professional plan and above. It is available as a $149/mo add-on on the Starter plan.

Common questions

Can I use variables in the instructions?

Yes — <<variable>> substitution works in the Instructions and Subject fields. Example: "Let the customer know their order <> has shipped."

What model does it use?

Claude Haiku 4.5 — fast, accurate, and excellent at professional writing tasks.

Is there a daily sending limit?

200 AI-composed emails per day by default. No hard restrictions on who you can send to (unlike some competitors that restrict to org members only).

What if the contact has no email on file?

The node skips and logs a warning. Add an Ask Question node before it to collect their email first and save it to <<visitorEmail>>, then set that as the Recipient.

How is this different from the regular Send Email node?

The regular Send Email node sends a fixed template you write in advance. AI Compose Email writes a unique, personalised email every time based on your instructions and the conversation — useful when every interaction is different.
